Missed Opportunities
The spec of the forthcoming n96 seems good especially with the introduction of DVB-H and the large on-board memory, coupled with memory extension via transflash (boo hoo n95 8GB owners) but Nokia have missed an opportunity to improve on the n95 functionality and shortcomings to make it a real world beater, these, for me are: -
- still no touch screen (I remember buying a touch screen watch in Bangkok about 4 years ago for a couple of pounds, so it’s not an expensive technology to implement) so where is it. For me this will be one the new emerging desk top technologies ( I currently have a 17″ touch scree and used to develop apps utilising desktop touch screens and believe me they are great and so quick to use. This together with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and home server/streaming will be the new emerging technology over the next couple of years.
- still not full coverage of file-types, which means we will still be getting the very annoying “file not supported” message, when wanting to download rar files, even though we have the likes of winrar and pocket rar to process the files on the mobile. (There is a workaround for this however, you can find it on my n95 blog here.)
What would you have liked to have seen incorporated into the n96?
